As you may have noticed, TheAIGames.com has had a major update. The biggest part of this update is because of our new collaboration with Warlight.net, which we are really exited about. Below is a list of all the changes
From now on Conquest will be named Warlight AI Challenge. We did this because a lot of people who were playing Warlight were already looking for a site like ours, even before we started this project. We figured it would just fit better together if we'd rename the competition. As Warlight has thousands of active players, we're expecting a big increase in users on our site as well, so all the more fun!
We delayed the finals one month, to the end of May (exact date will be announced later). We did this to give the new players a fair chance to improve their bots.
There also was a change in the engine. In Conquest regions could attack/transfer as many times to the same region as there were armies on it. We changed this to 1 attack/transfer per region to the same region per round. This is also because of our new collaboration. In Warlight you can only attack/transfer once per region to the same region per round, so to avoid confusion, we changed this to match.
Bots now play only against the 10 ranked above and below them on the leaderboard. This is to make sure every match is a useful one.
There are also some minor other changes: C++ now compiles with the "c++0x" flag, C# now compiles with dmcs instead of mcs and institute averages are now calculated by taking the average of the top 5 bots, instead of all the bots in the institute.
After the finals are done, we now also have a prize (thanks to Starapple) for the best institute. The top 5 bots in the best institute will all get a -to be announced later- prize. Only institutes with at least 5 bots in it compete for this prize.
Finally we added a (global) rules page to the site. These rules apply to the current competition and all futures ones.
Thank you all, suggestions, comments and other inputs are always welcome. Have fun coding!

Sad to see the depth and pace of the game slowed down by the new rule. When will this new rule go into effect?

This new rule is already in effect. But it should not have an impact on the game itself, just on how the bots should play it.
Just to make it clear again, for instance: If you move 2 armies from region a to region b, it is now forbidden to move 2 armies from a to b again in the same round. Instead your bot should move 4 armies in one move. You can still move a number of armies from region a to region c in this round.

Alright, it looks like I misinterpreted the new rule then. Thanks for clearing it up.

Jim, what about the placement? I actually now place in a similar way you describe, first possibly add a big number, and later on add a residual. Is this also not going to work?

Great job on the multiple games at once! :-) <3
