I just finished my modifications to the Java starterbot. This is the bot RealityBomb that is currently at rank 4. You may download my starterbot under following link:
Here I wrote what I added to the official Java starterbot:

Don't you think that this bot is too advanced to be called "starterbot" ?

I think it's quite obvious that all serious bots need following parts: Good Data Structure, Fog Removal, Opponent Model, Evaluation Component, Moves Chooser
I didn't implement any of these components in a meaningful manner but for each component I usually added one tiny showcase. The current Opponent Model says that the opponent deploys 3 armies to each and every region. Someone who uses my Starterbot then knows where they can add their better heuristics about the opponents behavior. This should be especially important for new programmers since they usually don't know how to structure their code. The official starterbot is mainly about the communication with the game engine while my Advanced Starterbot also adds an architecture that you can use to build your own bot.

Just starting to try my hand at this and as a new programmer this will be very helpful for learning and seeing how things should kinda go to give me direction, thanks!
